Etymology: Myroconger: Greek, myros, -ou = male of morey eel + Latin, conger = conger (Ref. 45335); gracilis: Specific name derived from the Latin gracilis, meaning slender, in reference to the more slender body of this species compared with that of the type species, M. compressus.
