Considered as a subspecies in the literature since 1982. Therefore the upraise at species rank here is considered as a provisionally accepted name, until more works are conducted on P. copei susbepcies to fix their status.

Southern Ocean: Kerguelen and Crozet islands.

Max length : 22.1 cm TL male/unsexed; (Ref. 11892)
Mature female observed in early summer (December) with 216 eggs from 2 to 3.5 mm (Ref. 45488).
