This species is distinguished by the following characters: pharyngeal tooth count of 1.5-4.1; branched dorsal-fin rays, modally 7. Colouration: peritoneum is light colored but with numerous melanophores; flanks with a lateral stripe evident posteriorly but fading anteriorly and not reaching the head (Ref. 124648).
