Etymology: Megadontognathus: Greek, megas, megalos = great + Greek, odous = teeth + Greek, gnathos = jaw (Ref. 45335); kaitukaensis: Named for its type locality, Cachoeiras de Kaituká (=Caitucá), Rio Xingu drainage.
