Etymology: Labeo: Latin, labeo = one who has large lips (Ref. 45335); alticentralis: Latin alte - high, centrum - center, name refers to the zone of origin of the specimens examined (central basin of the Congo River and Upper Lualaba) (Ref. 26192).

Lips plicate; dorsal fin concave with 4 simple rays and 9 to 10 branched rays; snout rounded without transverse furrow; maxillary barbels more or less large, slightly visible externally; rostral barbels small, hidden in the rostral furrow; eyes in superolateral position; body with longitudinal dark brown stripes; genital orifice near the origin of the anal fin (Ref. 26192).
