North Pacific: northern Hokkaido, Japan to the northern Sea of Japan, the Okhotsk and Bering seas, to Gulf of Alaska (Ref. 559). Reported from South Korea (Ref. 77001).

Dorsal spines (total): 61 - 66; Dorsal soft rays (total): 0; Anal spines: 1; Anal soft rays: 47 - 50. Dorsal side of head with numerous dermal cirri; scales on body not extending forward beyond origin of dorsal fin; anterior chin with a pair of small cirri (Ref. 559).
Found in soft bottoms at depths of 45 - 490 meters; usually on outer continental shelf and upper slope (Ref. 51666).
