Body reddish, darker above, pale below. Lips yellow. Yellow stripes from nostrils through eye to edge of opercle and from eye across cheek. Dorsal and anal fins unscaled. Adults with protruding front teeth, 4 in upper jaw, 2 in lower (Ref 52831).
Body shape (shape guide): fusiform / normal.
Mainly found over rocky bottoms of insular areas (Ref. 5217).
