Etymology: Placidochromis: Latin, placidus = of peaceful or tranquile appearance + Greek, chromis = a fish, perhaps a perch (Ref. 45335).

Freshwater; demersal; pH range: 8.0 - 8.5; dH range: 10 - 20; depth range 4 - 35 m. Tropical; 23°C - 26°C (Ref. 2060); 11°S - 15°S
Africa: Endemic to Lake Malawi. Occurs on Malawi shores: at Nkhata Bay and in the south along the Nankumba Peninsula from Thumbi Island west to Zambo in the south east arm.

Confined to rocky areas where the rocks are covered with a thin layer of sediment. Usually solitary. Feeds on insect larvae and crustaceans (Ref. 267).
