Marine; reef-associated; depth range 1 - 45 m (Ref. 9710). Tropical
Western Central Atlantic: Mosquito Bank (off Nicaragua), Bahamas, Grand Cayman (Cayman Islands), Jamaica, Dominican Republic, and Tobago. Absent from the rest of the Caribbean.

Body rich orangish-yellow in color. Snout with dark spots which may be large and bordered by iridescent blue. Pectoral fins pigmented.
Body shape (shape guide): short and / or deep.
Previously known from deep reefs but has since been found in shallow water (1-8 m). Territorial on reef tops (Ref. 9710).
