Similar to H. timorensis and best distinguished by the more horizontal line pattern on the cheek (Ref. 48636).
Body shape (shape guide): fusiform / normal.
Found in shallow coastal reef flat and gutters with algae and sparse coral growth. Occurs in small loose aggregations. Males territorial with numerous females spread over a section of reef (Ref. 48636).
