Etymology: Corydoras: Greek, kory = helmet + greek, doras = skin (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Josef Treitl (1804–1895) was an Austrian bank and hospital director. He left a large sum of money to the Austrian Academy of Sciences, where Steindachner worked. This species is probably named after him, though Steindachner’s text does not enlighten. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
