Etymology: Propimelodus: Greek, pro = first, in front of + see under Pimelodus.
Issue
Pimelodus eigenmanni is treated as the valid name for the species, despite being a primary junior homonym of Pimelodus eigenmanni Boulenger (currently considered a valid species in Pimelodella), following Art. 23.9.5 of the latest code.
