Etymology: Opsariichthys: Greek, opsarion, -ou = a little portion fish + Greek, ichthys = fish (Ref. 45335); duchuunguyeni: Named for Prof. Nguyen Huu Duc, who has contributed to Vietnamese freshwater fishes research.

Vertebrae: 40 - 41. Distinguished from other species of Opsariichthys by the following combination of characters: maxillary barbels absent; anterior notch on tip of upper lip absent; 41 scales on lateral line; 13-14 pre-dorsal scales; body width narrow; maxillary extending to or slightly beyond vertical of anterior margin of orbit; a series of two rows with 12-15 rounded tubercles on lower jaw; pectoral fin extending to origin of ventral fin in adult male; and snout and ventral side of head orange red in adult male in life (Ref. 95038).
Inhabits the upper reach of stream with moderate velocity of clear water and substrate of small and medium pebbles and boulders (Ref. 95038).
