Vertebrae: 24 - 26. A species of the C. congicum species group with characters typical of that assemblage. Within this group, C. milleri may be distinguished by the following characters: unusually low fin-spine counts for Ctenopoma (D XIV, A VI-VII), and a distinctive, mottled color pattern.
