Etymology: Chromidotilapia: Greek, chromis = a fish, perhaps a perch + Bechuana, African native thiape = fish (Ref. 45335).

Africa: endemic to the upper and middle Cavally River in Côte d'Ivoire (Ref. 53405).

Ovophilic, paternal mouthbrooder (Ref. 12468, 52307). Both parents can take care of the young after hatching (Ref. 12468), but pair-bonding seems relatively weak (Ref. 52307). Maximum TL recorded is 8.65 cm (Ref. 5657).
