Etymology: Hypostomus: Greek, hypo = under + Greek, stoma = mouth (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Frank J Pospisil was a geologist with the Lago Petroleum Corporation, Venezuela. He was honoured in the binomial as Pospisil “…made it possible for [the author] to collect fishes in the Rio Machango and also in the Andes of Venezuela.” (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
