Etymology: Amblyeleotris: Greek, amblys = darkness + The name of a Nile fish, eleotris (Ref. 45335); taipinensis: Named "taipinensis" after the locality (Nansa Isles, Taipin Island, in southern region of the South China Sea) where species was collected.
