Etymology: Hoplichthys: Greek, hoplon = weapon + Greek,ichthys = fish (Ref. 45335).
The genus Monhoplichthys have no status in Eschmeyer (CofF ver. Jan. 2017) and the species is placed there in Hoplichthys. Please send references, or more studies are needed.
