Etymology: Leiocassis: Greek, leios = smooth + Greek, kassis = similar to cinnamon (Ref. 45335); collinus: From the Latin collinus, pertaining to a hill, in reference to its habitat (hillstreams). The word is associated with the hills in the northeastern Rome, and the name also alludes to the distribution (northeast Borneo) of the species.

Found in forested hillstreams consisting of both pool and riffle habitats (Ref. 57084). The riffle habitats have substrate consisted of sand, gravel and rocks while the pools have fine silt and dead leaves (Ref. 57084).
