Etymology: Placidochromis: Latin, placidus = of peaceful or tranquile appearance + Greek, chromis = a fish, perhaps a perch (Ref. 45335); borealis: From the Latin "borealis" = northern, named for its occurrence in the extreme north of Lake Malawi (Wissman Bay in Tanzania)(Ref. 55898).
