Etymology: Sicyopterus: Greek, sika, sikya = cucumber + Greek, pteron = wing, fin (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Roger Franoux (d: 1947) was a friend and collaborator of René Catala (q.v.); together they collected the holotype in Madagascar. He was murdered during the Malagasy uprising. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
