Etymology: Hemichromis: Greek, hemis = half + Greek, chromis = a fish, perhaps a perch (Ref. 45335).
This species is a synonym of Hemichromis fasciatus Peters, 1857 in Eschmeyer (CofF ver. May 2011: Ref. 86870) following Teugels & Thys van den Audenaerde (1992: Ref. 7378).
