(Perch-likes) > Gobiidae
(Gobies) > Gobiinae
Etymology: Priolepis: Greek, prio = to saw + Greek, lepis = scale (Ref. 45335); ailina: Name from the Greek ailinos for mournful or plaintive, alluding to the rather lugubrious expression imparted to this little fish by the dark stripe below eye; noun in apposition.
Environment: milieu / climate zone / depth range / distribution range
Marine; reef-associated; non-migratory; depth range 3 - 31 m (Ref. 9018), usually 20 - 25 m (Ref. 9018). Tropical
Eastern Central Pacific: known only from French Polynesia.
Size / Weight / Age
Maturity: Lm ?  range ? - ? cm
Max length : 1.7 cm SL (female)
soft rays: 8. This species is distinguished by the following characters: no fraenum, a high pectoral fin count of 19, a fifth pelvic ray that is 50% the length of the fourth and that branches only once, head bars very vague and difficult to discern, with the postocular bar joining the opercular bar, and a dark, pupil-diameter-width stripe from the eye to the corner of the mouth (Ref. 9018).
Most specimens taken on the reef slope where coral rubble plentiful (Ref. 9018).
