Etymology: Heptapterus: Greek, epta = seven + Greek, pteron = wing, fin (Ref. 45335).
This species is placed in the genus Phenacorhamdia in Eschmeyer (CofF ver. Mar. 2011: Ref. 86697) following DoNascimiento & Milani (2008: Ref. 78618), who based the change in genus on the unpublished work of Bockmann (1998: Ref. 86851). This reclassification has not been documented yet. We postpone this change until a more complete assessment is published.
