Indo-West Pacific: Red Sea, Cocos-Keeling, Christmas Island, northwestern Australia, Great Barrier Reef, and Palau (Ref. 37816). Recently reported from Tonga (Ref. 53797).

Inhabits clear seaward reefs (Ref. 37816). Nocturnal species (Ref. 7300). Solitary; inhabits deep caves and crevices during day (Ref 90102).
