Diagnosis

Description: body slender and elongated; frontal profile and mouth slightly rounded; caudal fin slightly rounded to subtruncate; most body scales ctenoid; sexual dimorphism well-developed, with males larger than females and possessing elongated rays in dorsal, anal and pelvic fins (Ref. 52307).

Coloration: body medium brown, with throat, breast and belly paler; scales with light, often silvery (especially in males), iridescent centers that create a pattern of light and brown longitudinal stripes on body; opercles and parts of cheeks iridescent turquoise to green, more intense in males than in females; males also with a dark margin in dorsal fin, several well-developed yellow egg spots in anal fin, and many maculae in dorsal and caudal fins, such patterns not seen in females (Ref. 52307).
