Diagnosis

This species is distinguished by the following characters: D1 V, D2 20-21 branched rays; A 18; usually P 17; lateral line 55-57, between lateral line and beginning of D1 3.5 scales; 6 fang-like teeth on symphysis of dentalia; palatine teeth absent; gill rakers on the first arch 12-14; vertebrae 10 + 20; scales ctenoid, including cheeks and breast; last spine of D1 connected with membrane and with first branched ray along most of its length, no filiform rays in fins, a slightly elongated first ray is in the upper lobe of caudal fin; head, body, and vertical fins without dark pattern; ventral fin bicolored, black at base and along the inner margin and light distally and from outside; caudal fin grayish, its middle rays and membranes between them are blackish in the distal half, with numerous white small spots grouped into narrow transverse bands (Ref. 85566).
