Distinguished from other species of genus Characidium by the bright yellow fin coloration, and by the absence of conspicuous dark bars along the sides of body in

individuals larger than 3.5 cm SL (vs. dark bars or marks present on the sides of the body in specimens of all sizes in the remaining species of Characidium) (Ref. 76854).
