Diagnosis

Distinguished from all other species of the genus by the following characters: 26-29 anal rays; 10-14 dorsal rays; and body depth 30-35% SL. These are unique characters except for dorsal ray counts for which the counts of 10-12 are shared with other species (Ref. 26687).

Description: Males have greenish brown head and body with diffuse dark brown blotches irregularly dispersed on body. A row of 5-8 larger blotches more or less irregularly distributed above axial stripe always present. Eye blue. Females have a lighter brown head and body without black marks. Female fins are hyaline, except for a grey margin at anal fin. Description: Body compressed, deep. Mouth terminal, almost horizontal. Jaws subequal or upper jaw slightly longer. Dorsal head profile convex in the interorbital area. No concavity on the nape. (Ref 26687)
