Distinguished from other members of the genus by the following combination of characters: lateral line system ventromediolateral; pectoral fin rays 22-23; first dorsal fin pterygiophore associated with vertebra 3-5; preanal distance 43-46% SL; color brownish with 6-10 white bars or patches along the dorsal part of the body and dorsal fin; peritoneum black.
