This species is distinguished by the following characters: gill rakers on the lower limb of the first branchial arch 11-14 (mode 13, 12 in type specimens); lips small, not enlarged; pectoral fins extending to the third anal spine base; depressed second anal spine extends to caudal peduncle base (Ref. 94655).
