This species is distinguished by the following characters: body long, compressed and rather slender with slightly protruding lower jaw and oblique mouth cleft; head profile convex; eyes tiny, black and deep-set; with a small area surrounding the eyes red-brown; height of head and anterior body-depth equal; head slightly broader than body; palatines edentate; dorsal fin origin well behind midpoint of fish; D 48-50; predorsal length 56-64% SL (Ref. 129454).
