Comments: | 'Israel strain' mirror carp were introduced at the Maricao Fish Hatchery but were eliminated after 2 years because they were not considered useful for the fisheries program. Reintroduced in 1990-1995 from the USA. Popular in the country as aquarium fishes and as ornamentals for ponds. Wild populations used in sportfishing. Introduced by the aquarium industry and by the University of Puerto Rico. Known from Cidra, Guajataca and Loiza Reservoirs (Felix Grana pers. comm.). Ref: Grana, F., 2007 |
