Definition of Term

evolutionarily significant unit
(English) A population or group of populations inhabiting a defined geographical area that comprises a unique segment of the species; a distinct population, reproductively isolated from other conspecific populations and is an important evolutionary legacy of the species. (See also: population, conspecific, species)
