Type locality: Maroubra, N.S.W., AM I.3297 (holotype of Psenes whiteleggii). Known from off Port Hedland, WA (17°31'S, N coast, NW coast, NW oceanic) to off Botany Bay, NSW (34°S) (Ref. 75154). In the West Australian Basin, specimens between 13.5-13.8 cm SL were caught by midwater trawl, 60-90 (horizon 80) and 100-130 m in May 1982 (Ref 54802). Also Ref. . 9563, 49596.
