Reported from the mixohaline ponds of Kona coast (Ref. 46928). One of the most important food fishes in ancient Hawaii; young fish called "pua" were captured along the shoreline and raised in ponds to provide a constant supply of food fish; now the focus of a stock enhancement project based in Hilo on the Big Island of Hawaii (Ref. 44091).
