Type locality, Type locality, Río Teuchitlán, below and just east of Teuchitlán, near road between Hwy 70 (Ameca to Guadalajara) and Etzatlán, Jalisco (Ref. 29410). The release of the domestically bred platies resulted to its extinction in its natural habitat. Also Ref. 26130, 3881. Status of threat: extirpated in nature.
