Medium-sized fish from Valcheta stream in the Rio Negro south of Rio de la Plata; most southern characid in temperate waters. Scarce at the Frio branch and abundant at the Caliente branch (Ref. 35685). Threatened by introduction of Oncorhynchus mykiss and Salvelinus fontinalis Ref. 35685). Also Ref. 598.
