Type locality, Monagas: Department of Maturín, Morichal Largo, Río Guanipa, 5 km south of Aguasay, Golfo de Paria drainage, MCNG 29129 (holotype of Sternarchorhynchus mendesi, 15.5 cm TL). Known only from the Río San Juan and Río Guanipa basins of north-eastern Venezuela, both of which drain into the Golfo de Paria (Ref. 84053). |
