Known from the Taganrog Bay of the Sea of Azov and Don River from mouth upstream to the upper stretch of Tsymlyansk Reservoir. Its presence in Severskiy Donetz and Manych (Don tributaries) as Benthophilus stellatus and in the lower Kuban River is probable (Ref. 58669). It is believed or assumed that this species was introduced into Kuybyshev Reservoir (Volga River, Caspian Sea basin) mixed with mysids introduced from Tsymlyansk Reservoir (Don River, Sea of Azov basin) (Ref. 58669).
