This new species is described for the former southern populations of Notropis buccatus. It is known from Pearl River Drainage in Mississippi, east to the Apalachicola River Drainage in Florida and Georgia. On the Atlantic slope, found only in the Altamaha River Drainage. Type locality, Wacoochee Creek, County Road 379, 5 km NE Bleecker, Lee County, Alabama, AUM 39911 (holotype of Notropis amplamala, 6.42 cm SL) (Ref. 57709). |
