Polypterus senegalus senegalus is known from Volta basin (Ref. 2835, 8992, 52840), including Lake Volta (Ref. 3875, 89114). It is rarely used as food, but it is of aquarium importance; the species is not endangered (Ref. 30488). Also Ref. 11235, 30488.
