Known from the Ohio River basin from Muskingum River drainage in Ohio to southeast Illinois (extirpated in Illinois) and south to Tennessee River drainage in Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi; upper Black Warrior River system (Gulf basin) in Alabama (Ref. 86798). Common to abundant (Ref. 86798). Type locality, Spring and Pin-hook creeks, Huntsville, Madison Co., Alabama (Ref. 54621).
