Type locality of Cyprinus meckel no locality; Blicca intermedia, Rhone River at Lyon, France (Ref. 124648). Most common in the northern part of France, basins of the Seine, the Loire, the Rhône and the Rhine (Ref. 30578). Rare in the Garonne and Brittany (Ref. 40476). Appararently introduced in small coastal drainages of Var (Ref. 59043).
