Occurs throughout India (Ref. 45255). Found in Western Ghats Rivers, Maharashtra (Ref. 43634), Tambraparani river system, Cauveri and Chinnar river systems, North Arcot district, Tamil Nadu, Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, Bangalore and Kolar districts, Kanataka (Ref. 92228). Also recorded from the Chalakudy river, part of the Western Ghats, Kerala (Ref. 79567). Present in Nainital, Bhimtal and Naukuchiatal lakes (Ref. 89721). Introduced for mosquito control. Also Ref. 4833, 43640.
