Misidentificatin due to the complex taxonomy of Salvelinus in Europe; see Ref. 59043. Most probably the species in Ref. 59043 is Salvelinus colii (Günther, 1863), less probably Salvelinus fimbriatus Regan, 1908 or Salvelinus grayi (Günther, 1862). Thus, the following statement from Ref. 79581 needs to be re-appraised: It appears that the population has become extirpated in a few lakes such as Loughs Ennell, Owel and Neagh. Recently reported to have underdone a major population decline in Lough Conn due to a significant increase in eutrophication (Ref. 79581).

Status of threat following the 1990 IUCN classification: vulnerable (Ref. 79581).
