Found only in the faster flowing streams in a small area of the Central Catchment Nature Reserve. Inhabits fast-flowing, well shaded swamp-forest streams with acidic waters, and dense growth of submerged vegetation. Feeds on minute invertebrates and uses its dexterous and strong pelvic fins to move about. Threatened due to habitat degradation and possibly small population size. Its natural habitat in the Central Catchment Nature Reserve has been protected from human impacts (Ref. 85309).

Status of threat: critically endangered (Ref. 85350).
