Comments

Known from Mucuri and Doce River basins (Ref. 38504). Reported to occur only in the rio Santo Antônio basin, which has a total drainage area of 10,390 sq. km. However, since the species appears not to occur in the entire basin, its actual distribution area is substantially smaller. Using the IUCN (1996) criteria, status should be listed as endangered because is has a small distribution, known to exist in less than 5 locations, and its occurrence declining, area of occupancy and quality of habitat. Proposed to change its indeterminate status to endangered "EN B1+2abc" (Ref. 40429). Also Ref. 598.
