This species grows to a particularly large size at Ascension, reaching estimated lengths of 2-3 m and has been seen to feed on young turtles during the hatching season. Unusually aggressive attacks on man has been reported and can produce shearing wounds, about 1 cm deep and lacerations that require stitches (Ref. 86997). Also Ref. 5288, 4450.
