Reported from a forest brook crossing the Chibia-Jau road at the Jau-Onguéria bifurcation, part of the Kunene according to the figure caption in Ref. 11970 but in the upper Coroca basin (flowing into the Atlantic Ocean north of the Cunene) according to Ref. 78218; this locality is however in the upper Cubal (=Bero) River system (T. Musschoot, pers. comm.; also Ref. 120641). Also reported from the Cuango River (Kasai drainage, middle Congo River basin) (Ref. 11970) but this is unconfirmed in Ref. 120641, reporting the species from the Kunene and "Cuanza (Atlantic coastal)"; the latter probably refers to the Cuanzan drainage basin or Cuanza Ichthyological Province, including various Angolan coastal basins, and not (only) the Cuanza river basin. Type locality of the holotype of Chiloglanis angolensis: "stream crossing Chibia-Jau road, at Jau-Onguéria bifurcation, a few km south of Chibia, near Sá da Bandeira" (Ref. 11970).
